Graduating
From ScribbleWiki: MD PhD Advice
Graduating - it's a long and difficult road to get here. Some things to know:
- The "gap" in pay - most MD PhD programs end in May, and most residencies have orientations that start in June between June 10th and 24th. There are some unconfirmed reports that you are paid for orientation. However, this leaves you without 3 weeks of salary. Some people get their PI to pay them for some lab work, or pursue some consulting gig.
- Hooding - there is some debate, but the PhD is a 'higher' degree, so most people go with the PhD hood as well as the MD hood.
